MyCityWay, a New York based mobile media company, today officially announced its arrival in India and launched the Indian version of their highly successful smart-phone (iPhone, Android, Blackberry) application. The initial release covers four major Indian metros (Chennai, Mumbai, New Delhi and Bengaluru) and is the first step towards reaching the goal of extending to 11 major Indian cities by August 2011. The apps will also be available cross-platform on iPhone, iPad, Android, Nokia and Blackberry devices.MyCityWay is a real-time, user driven, geo-aware urban reference for mobile devices. Users can find local restaurants, shopping, hospitals, events, parking locations, utility services, WiFi locations and much more -- all from a single, easy to use application.

The company said that the Indian version of the app has already reached the top of the iTunes apps chart just a few days after the trail-release. This is another statement of intent from the ambitious New York based startup as they bid to gain a foothold in India; the 2nd fastest-growing mobile market in the world.

The company was founded by 3 Indian ex-pats who quit their high-profile Wall Street jobs to create a one-stop, do-it-all app for their beloved New York City. Read their profile on YourStory by clicking here.

From New York to Shanghai via London, Paris, Berlin and many others in between (all cities apps available for free on the iTunes Store), MyCityWay comes home to India. Back to where it all began, to give Indian smartphone users customized apps for their cities. MyCityWay has also opened up its platform and partnered with some of the well known Indian brands.

My City Way

With an impressive roster of over 50 intelligent, location-aware urban mobility apps, MyCityWay is enhancing the urban experience for Smartphone users around the world by helping them navigate and explore their favorite cities. The first of its kind to be launched in India, the app uses GPS technology and local information unrivalled in richness and depth to give users a complete overview of what’s around them - from restaurants, bars and shops to restrooms, Wi-Fi hotspots and just about anything else you can think of. MyCityWay does the job of many apps at once - all at no cost to the user. It also helps the users connect with their friends on Facebook to find the best places to hang out and enjoy the city.

MyCityWay is headquartered in NYC, and is funded by top-tier venture capital funds including FirstMark Capital, BMWi Ventures and IA Ventures, and NYC Economic Development Corporation.

Having already secured a partnership with BMW as exclusive strategic partners in mobility services, MyCityWay continues to spark interest from major players in a number of different fields. The launch of MyCityWay India has been welcomed by multiple telecom companies and handset OEMs with whom the company is currently establishing key relationships - as they explore the possibility of integrating their services at a more fundamental level. Early download figures suggest MyCityWay India may not only prove to be the most popular release in the company’s history, but also one of the most succesful app created with Indian users in mind.

MyCityWay India can be downloaded from the iTunes app store and Android Market for free. Cities currently available are Chennai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai.
