Young Turks Startup Story

In 2003, Sunil Vishnu K. and Karthik Kumar, graduates of MICA (Mudra Institute of Communication Ahmedabad) quit their corporate jobs to start an entertainment entrepreneurship called ?evam? which would offer live stage theatre as its core offering. They had a lakh a piece as seed capital and a dream. Today evam is a ‘happy factory?- 5 years young, having turned the tables on conventional logic and registered a turnover of 1.5 crore and living off theatre proudly! evam currently has a team of 6 full-time employees (MBA?s, engineers, psychology graduates) apart from the two directors and a team of 30 who are employed part-time.evam has done 16 plays and 245 shows in these 5 years across India and is planning a 14 city campaign for 2009-10 with a theatrical adaptation of ?One Night @ The Call Centre? by Chetan Bhagat.

evam prides itself on being an effective marketing communications medium, entertainment being the language, to further the objectives of the brands we partner. Some of the brands who have partnered us are – Airtel, Standard Chartered Bank, TCS, HSBC, Royal Sundaram, Citibank, Durex, Nestle, Motorola, BPL, The Hindu, The Park, Zest, Karadi Tales and Sab Miller. evam has partnered brands as a marketing arm on some projects (advertising media) while delivering ?theatre live methodology? based corporate training modules in other cases. They have even created special customised corporate theatre content for brands like Ashok Leyland, The Times of India, etc.

evam is a thriving business in a field that hitherto did not exist. They created the first ever trailer for a play (aired at muliplexes), were featured as CNBC ?Young Turks? in 2007, were nominated for the ?Pepsi-MTV Youth Icons 2008? and were short listed as the top 30 Tata-NEN Hottest Startups in 2008 . evam has recently launched ?d? sound? and ?d light? - applying theatre to create business verticals in audio visual media.
