MobiKwik, a mobile wallet player today announced the launch of its new bill payment services. MobiKwik now allows consumers to pay all their utility bills – including telecom – mobile and landline, electricity, insurance and gas, via their MobiKwik m-wallet.

In order to provide the convenience of multiple online utility bill payments, MobiKwik has realized tie-ups with Airtel landline, TATA Teleservices (CDMA), MTNL in telecom, Reliance Energy, BSES Rajdhani, BSES Yamuna, MSEB Mumbai, North Delhi Power in electricity, ICICI Prudential, TATA AIG life insurance for Life Insurance and Mahanagar Gas. By adding money to their MobiKwik m-wallet by credit or debit card or through the facility of doorstep collection, users can make payments for services and recharges in one click, or via an SMS or by dialling a number.

According to a recent survey* 80% per cent of bills in India are paid at the biller’s office, of which 90% are cash payments. Nearly 15% of bills are paid online either through online banking which is primarily available for the banked population or through the biller’s website, which would require the user to visit multiple websites.

“The launch and addition of new options of bill payment are a significant step in our growth strategy. With MobiKwik, users now have the option of consolidating all their utility payments through one wallet that promises ease, security, the convenience of doing away with cheques and late payments and the option to be green! We expect this new addition to our services portfolio, to not only be attractive to our current user base of 1.2 million customers but also to millions of prospective customers who make utility bill payments the traditional way today,” says Bipin Preet Singh, CEO & Founder, MobiKwik. “Our ambition is to be the PayPal of India by simplifying digital transactions between merchants and consumers, facilitated by the MobiKwik m-wallet”.

Launched in 2009, MobiKwik aims to build a mobile payment ecosystem that will enable its users to make payments via their MobiKwik wallet for their utility bills, online merchant websites and more.
