Goa based PowerStores raises $ 2 million, hires executives and launches their Guru program

PowerStores is a Goa based SaaS DIY (Software as a Service Do-It-Yourself) e-commerce and website platform that allows businesses to easily create and manage content and e-commerce based websites. Founded in late 2011 by Cory York and Indrajit Chowdhury, PowerStores was started from the revenue generated by SociaLinked (complete story). In an announcement, PowerStores has raised funding from foreign investors.

The amount hasn’t been disclosed but sources close to the development inform that around USD 2 million dollars has been put in the company. Cory says that the money has been raised from a Hong Kong based Super Angel and will be used to grow the team, market the product and expand operations globally.

PowerStores also recruited two Americans to add more experience to its leadership team. Both will be based out of the Goa headquarters in the state capital city of Panjim.

Greg Acuna as the Chief Strategy Officer - Greg joins PowerStores with over 30 years of diverse experience being an entrepreneur, project management consultant, media producer and writer.

Sara Cabral - VP Operations - Sara is the Vice President of Operations at PowerStores. She has over 10 years work experience in San Francisco-based high-tech startups, most recently at Moderati,

Along with the funding and recruitment announcement, PowerStores (competes with the likes of Buildabazaar, MartJack, Zepo) has also launched the PowerStores Guru Program (Customer Support):

We have assembled a team of some of the best web developers and graphic designers in the country. Armed with our PowerStores web development tools our Gurus provide fast, flexible and complete service to our customers. Each customer who signs up for a PowerStore will be assigned a Guru within 24 hours.

That Guru will be personally available to you throughout the entire process to:

  • Get customers started on building their online stores.
  • Assist with payment gateways and setting up a merchant account.
  • Help with registering of domain names.
  • Create a personalized web design for customers who want it.
  • Answer any questions, basic or technical or basic.
