We at YourStory.in take pride in being on the button when it comes to understanding the pulse of the entrepreneur. Here are a few snippets and an interesting infographic of what the startups and entrepreneurs in the Delhi / NCR region feel:

Composition

  • B2B Software and Consumer Internet startups make up 23% of the survey respondents
  • ~50% of the startups are revenue generating but only nearly ~25% are profit making
  • ~70% of the startups are leveraging the Android and iOS platforms for their product
  • ~54% of the startups are leveraging Amazon Web Services for their Cloud requirements
  • 69% of all startups had headcount growth plans in the coming 6-12 months

Funding

  • 62% of the startups were bootstrapped
  • 85% of the startups were looking for Angel funding in the next 6-12 months
  • 77% of the startups were undecided on the preferred exit strategy
  • 62% of the startups had not pitched to an investor till date

What they felt was missing

  • Ecosystem level – 54% felt that access to good mentors was lacking. Not surprisingly, 85% of the startups did not have a mentor
  • Organization Capability level – 54% felt that the biggest help needed was in the fund raising area, followed by 46% who felt that they needed help with marketing
  • Talent level – 46% felt that good engineers and 31% felt that good designers were in short supply in the market

Sector insights

  • 66% of B2B Software and Consumer Internet startups had growth plans of 1-10 employees in the next 6-12 months
  • 100% of all Consumer Internet startups were bootstrapped, owing to low costs for the sector
  • 100% of all Mobile / VAS startups felt the absence of quality mentors
  • 66% of all Consumer Internet startups felt that they needed help with funding, with a focus on scale
