There’s a flurry of announcements in 2014 and this tie-up just ensures that the remaining five months are going to be super-busy for the Indian ecommerce giant. Flipkart already has over  15 million products across 70+ categories on its platform. Earlier, the company has exclusively tied up with the likes of FISME and NCDPD for partnering with local artisans and manufacturers.

This alliance between India’s number one marketplace for used goods, and country’s top destination for online shopping, can be considered a stepping stone towards consolidation of Indian ecommerce space. Both the companies have Naspers as their common investor. The first phase of the tie-up will be kicked off with a joint marketing campaign urging consumers to upgrade by selling their used products on OLX.in before buying the new products on Flipkart.

Said Amarjit Batra, CEO, OLX.in said,

The idea for this tie-up was conceived keeping in mind the strong and independent position of OLX and Flipkart in their respective space. The rationale for the number one online classifieds platform and the leading e-commerce platform coming together for a marketing campaign is a seamless one. This tie-up will enhance consumer experience on OLX and Flipkart by giving users a more holistic online shopping experience in which they can sell their used goods on OLX before buying new products on Flipkart.

The joint initiative by the two online market leaders has been launched to further increase the awareness levels and accelerate the adoption of their online platforms for buying and selling. The campaign will run for one month, and will include several verticals within the electronics categories.

Ravi Vora, Sr. VP – Marketing, Flipkart mentioned,

With this partnership with OLX, we will be able to provide an end-to-end solution to customers especially in the Electronics categories where selling old products is an integral part of the buying process.

OLX.in is used by people in India to buy and sell a wide range of products including used household items, furniture, consumer durables, musical instruments, cars & motorcycles, electronics & mobiles, property and local services.

So, what’s next do you expect from Flipkart?
