Sarbvir Singh - Managing Director, Capital18
Sarbvir Singh is the Managing Director of Capital18,venture investment arm of Network18. He comes with 12 years of global experience in investment management and business operations. He started his career with Emerson Electric in Hong Kong, responsible first for business development across Asia and then marketing in China. Subsequently, he spent five years with Citigroup in New York, where he was responsible for making investments in the global consumer sector. Most recently, he was co-managing an investment management boutique that invested private client assets in India.
Sarbvir remains committed to build the young entrepreneurial ecosystem in India and many entrepreneurs will vouch for the knowledge and guidance they continue to receive from him.He holds a degree in business management from IIM Ahmedabad and is a graduate of IIT Delhi.
Cyrus Driver - Managing Director, Helix Investments
Cyrus Driver is Managing Director of Helix Investments Advisors, an India-focused PE fund. Cyrus has many years experience of private equity investing in India. Prior to joining Helix, he worked with J.P. Morgan Partners Advisors in Singapore and Mumbai, during which time he invested across varied sectors including manufacturing, food retail, B2B businesses and IT services. Cyrus has also been an entrepreneur - in mid 2004, he founded Calorie Care, a wellness venture based out of Mumbai city that is today India’s largest healthy meals provider. Cyrus received his Bachelor of Technology at the Indian Institute of Technology and his MBA from the Indian Institute of Management.
Sanjay Chakrabarti - Partner, Markets - Ernst & Young
Sanjay has recently re-located to Mumbai, as a Partner and is part of the Markets team.
Before moving into this role, Sanjay was part of the Asia Pacific Business Group in New York for 2 years and lead the India desk. His role involved extensive interaction on a real time basis with US companies wanting to set-up/ consolidate their presence in India. His recent assignments include negotiation with India joint venture partner, fund investments into the India (particularly the real estate sector) and structure the carry interest, setting-up of back office operations, investment into the Indian Special Economic Zones, global re-organisation and structuring of investment and funding options.
Sanjay has over 12 years of extensive experience in advising on Indian corporate, indirect and individual tax matters relating to multinational and domestic companies engaged in a wide range of industries. Sanjay has significant knowledge on structuring cross-border transactions using Double Tax Avoidance Agreements and also has hands-on experience in managing tax litigation and undertaking due diligence. Sanjay is also a regular contributor to the International Tax Journal. Sanjay is a member of the US India Business Council and an active participant at various seminars on India.
Sanjay holds a Bachelor's degree in Commerce and is a Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.
Rahul Patwardhan - Vice Chairman and Managing Director - India Co Ventures
Rahul has over 14 years of experience in venture capital, general management and product management. He has personally invested, mentored and advised several mid-sized and large corporations. At IVL, Rahul is responsible for managing all investment and operational aspects, establishing partnerships with corporations for technology collaboration and venture capital funds and providing strategic business guidance to IndiaCo companies and other companies under IndiaCo’s constellation. Rahul has extensive international experience, expertise with small, mid-sized and large corporations in the real-estate, engineering and software industries in business planning and strategy, and has held positions in operations management, finance & investment analysis and business development. Rahul was a former member of the Advisory Committee for the Department of Science and Technology (STEP) and the Chairman of the Incubation Committee of the NIF (National Innovation Foundation) of India. Presently, he is actively associated with Identity Foundation, an NGO focused on educating underprivileged children. Rahul has been awarded by the Indian Economic Development Association (IEDRA) for "Outstanding Contributions to National Development". Rahul holds a Masters in Business Management and a Mechanical Engineering Degree from Pune University.
Nikhil Khattau , Managing Director, Mayfield Advisors
NIKHIL KHATTAU is an experienced banker, entrepreneur and private equity investor who has built and invested in companies in India for the last 12 years. He is a Managing Director at Mayfield Advisors Pvt. Ltd. and focuses on the financial services, retail and consumer services, discrete manufacturing, business services, power ancillary, and media sectors in India.He sits on the boards of Marico Industries (a publicly-held packaged consumer goods company), the MidDay group (a publicly-held media group), Consim Info (India’s largest matrimony portal) Paymate (a secured and convenient payment service company) and Geodesic Techniques (a hi-tech design and infrastructure company).
Nikhil was the founding CEO of SUN F&C Asset Management, one of the first private sector asset managers in India. At its peak as the fastest-growing asset manager, the firm had over $350 million under management and over 100,000 investors. Under his leadership, the firm successfully acquired two other funds, and built one of the top-ranked India funds. Nikhil successfully sold the business to the Principal Financial Group, USA in 2004.
Nikhil's prior experience includes working for Ernst & Young's Corporate Finance and Audit practices in New York and London from 1986-1995, where he successfully advised a number of mid-market companies on their acquisition and divestment strategies. He also helped set up the firm's investment banking advisory operation in Russia.
Nikhil received his Bachelor's degree in Commerce from Bombay University and is an associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
Nikhil is on the national board of advisors of AIESEC in India.
Ashish Goenka - UK India Business Council
Ashish has over 10 years of professional experience across Asia, Western Europe and the USA. A diverse career spanning two start-ups, management consulting, investment banking, private equity, media and technology gives Ashish a unique perspective, both of being a first hand entrepreneur to someone who has mentored, consulted and helped to finance entrepreneurial ventures.
An Indian national, Ashish has lived in the UK for the larger part of his life, and moved back to India in 2008. He is currently heading up the UK India Business Council in Mumbai, an organisation that aims to promote and facilitate bi-lateral trade between UK and India. Ashish is also responsible for the UK India Business Angels Network and the Next Generation UK India Network – both initiatives to help nurture entrepreneurship talent across the UK-India channel.
Ashish holds a BSc (Honors) from King’s College (University of London) and is also an Associate of Chartered Accountants of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales.
