eDC IITD Invites Entrepreneurs for Black Speaker Series on 11th August 09

Pre Event UpdateeDC's first in many events, the Black Speaker Series is a special initiative to motivate and invigorate Indian youth into entrepreneurial action and to look to make the future as leaders and not followers. The event shall be held within the IIT Campus (Seminar Hall) on the evening of the 11th of August(5:15 PM) Mr. Tarun Tejpal has been invited to speak on the future of India and entrepreneurship. It will be a widely attended event and will see many important topics being touched upon by one of India's best speakers. He shall take us through the various factors and challenges that face India in its quest to achieve its ambitions.
Brief on the Key SpeakerTarun Tejpal: Journalist, novelist, publisher and Man of CourageIn a 26-year career, he has been an editor with the India Today and the Indian Express groups, and the managing editor of Outlook, India’s premier newsmagazine. As the creator of India Ink, he became the first publisher of Arundhati Roy's "The God of small things" which won the Booker Prize.
In 2000, he created Tehelka.com, the online magazine that in 2001 broke a story about bribery in defence contracts that led to the resignation of the Indian minister of defence. He then raised the money to establish Tehelka as a weekly newspaper, and is now its editor-in-chief. Since then the magazine has exposed government involvement in the 2002 riots in Gujarat, which killed nearly 2,000 Muslims, and has become a benchmark for other Indian magazines.
In 2001, Asiaweek listed Tejpal as one of Asia’s 50 most powerful communicators, and BusinessWeek declared him among 50 leaders at the forefront of change in Asia. In 2007 The Guardian named him among the 20 who constitute India's new elite. In 2009 BusinessWeek has named Tarun one of India’s 50 most powerful people.
As a novelist, he has till now written two books both of which have attracted praise and recognition from the likes of V.S. Naipaul and Altaf Tyrewala. He has also won the Prix Millepages and was the finalist for the prestigious Prix Femina for his debut novel, the alchemy of Desire.
