Vice-Chancellor of Rayalaseema University, J.V. Prabharaka Rao inaugurated an entrepreneurship development cell (EDC), sanctioned by All India Council of Technical Education, at Gayatri Vidya Parishad College of Engineering (Autonomous), Visakhaptnam. On the occasion, Prof. Prabhakara Rao said it was unfortunate that not even 25 % of the engineering graduates were able to get employment in any sector. This was due to their lack of training and technical support. He felt that engineering students should have technical skills along with entrepreneurship abilities. Wilfred Gibhardt from Germany, who participated as a special invitee, stressed on the importance of return on investment. He said that young entrepreneurs should identify the changing marketing needs of customers and strive to live up to their expectations. Chief Coordinator of the EDC P. Venkata Rao said that the EDC was sanctioned by the AICTE with a view to encouraging technical students to consider self-employment as a career option and provide training in entrepreneurship development through modular courses and increase the relevance of management, particularly in the non-corporate and under managed sectors. Principal of GVPCOE N.S.V.V.S.J. Gandhi, in his report, explained the measures being taken by the college to promote self-employment and entrepreneurship through formal and non-formal programmes, utilisation of the infrastructure facilities and technically trained manpower for the development of non-corporate and unorganised sectors and to promote employment opportunities. Vice-president of Gayatri Vidya Parishad A.S.N. Prasad presided over the meeting.
