New Delhi, February 4, 2010: mydala.com, the “power of group buying” portal offering one unbeatable city-specific discount deal every day, today announced that it now has over 10,000 fans on Facebook. Launched in Delhi and Mumbai, mydala enables individuals get deep discounts that they can never get on their own, by simply joining other individuals that want to buy the same product and/or service.
These deep discounts are available only when a certain minimum number of individuals buy into a deal. mydala will be launched in Bangalore soon, followed by other cities. The concept is the brainchild of woman-entrepreneur Anisha Singh, who began her career on Capitol Hill working with the Clinton administration at National Women’s Business Association, helping women entrepreneurs raise funding for innovative women-led businesses.
Says Anisha, founder-CEO, mydala.com, “Facebook.com/mydala fan base has emerged as our biggest promoter which is helping spread the word to their network of family, friend and co-workers. Not many corporate Facebook pages from India have had the distinction of crossing the 10, 000 fan mark. In just over 2 months of our launch, we already have 10, 645 fans as of date, a number that is increasing every hour. This only reinforces that our fans see genuine value in the value our deals deliver. mydala brings buyers and sellers together in a fun and collaborative way by offering great deals on restaurants, bars, movies, salons, yoga and much more. Each deal offers savings ranging from no less than 40% and going up to a whopping 90%. We have already partnered with more than 80 popular businesses across India and are in active discussion with many more. Once you get such great deals, there’s no way anyone will want to pay retail again. We have also created an application that allows users to buy a deal from within Facebook itself.”
Explaining how mydala is creating a ripple effect in the Indian social media landscape, Anisha says, “Initially, we had an arduous challenge of convincing retailers to provide discounts as deep as 40-90%. Since we started with a small base of people who knew mydala, we also had a challenge to promote these deals to the right audiences to help form the groups so the deals could actually go live. However, in just over 2 months, things have started to change for the better. Where on one hand, we are getting reverse inquiries from retailers who want to associate with mydala, on the other, we are also getting Facebook messages from our fans who want mydala to offer deals in their cities including Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Jalandhar, Jaipur, etc.” Given the logistical challenges, we can’t launch in all cities at once, but we hope to be expanding very soon to Bangalore, and will be present in most of the major cities in India by end of this year, added Anisha.
FACEBOOK CONTEST
To commemorate the 10, 000 fan base mark, mydala has also announced a unique contest on Facebook, where the winner will get an 8.2 MP Kodak EasyShare C140 digital camera absolutely free! The contest will be valid till the Valentine’s Day on February 14. All that you need to do is to think of an innovative yet practical deal suggestion that you would want to be featured on mydala. Post it on your personal Facebook wall, tag mydala, and then get as many of your friends to “Like” your deal suggestion between today and February 14. Then drop us an email at [email protected] with the link of your deal suggestion post on Facebook, with the number of “Likes” you got, along with a caption, “I love mydala because...”. The person with the maximum number of “Likes” on the deal suggestion will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, the best caption will be used as the deciding factor. Rules are simple – the deal need not be limited to the cities where mydala operates currently, it should not have been already promoted on mydala in the past, and it must relate only to the areas in which mydala focuses, viz., casual dining and fast-food restaurants, shopping (clothing, handbags, shoes, etc.), health and beauty (massages, salons, gyms, etc.), recreation (movies, paintball, bowling, etc), services (drycleaners, cooking classes, dancing lessons, etc), and events (live music concerts, cricket matches, etc). Your email with the deal suggestion link, number of Likes, and caption, must reach us by February 14. Send only 1 email with the maximum number of likes, as multiple emails from same sender will be treated as spam and will be automatically disqualified.
