Wednesday April 14, 2010 , 2 min Read

Scientists are projecting acute energy crisis in future. Of course that future is far of but steps can be and should be taken to ensure that we delay such a crisis as much as possible. Many organisations our working to ensure that the energy resources that the world has now is used in an efficient way.

Governments are also initiating and also enforcing laws to implement the usage of renewable sources of energy. Among all these initiatives taken there is one global player using its highly talented technocrats has come up with a technology that can monitor the energy consumption in a house, factory or any organisation where ever the technology is installed. Its none other that GOOGLE.

GOOGLE power meter is software developed by GOOGLE’s philanthropic arm to help consumers track their energy usage. It’s an initiative to invest in renewable energy, electricity grid upgrades and other measures that will reduce green house gas emissions. GOOGLE power meter in collaboration with TED 500(TED stands for The Energy Detective) which is an energy monitor that measures enrgy usage helps to monitor your energy consumption to save energy and money.

It will enable the users to record their energy usage in real time through a chart and access the information on a widget on their igoogle home page. This tool aims to create awareness among the users about the amount of energy they use and make them more energy efficient. According to the company if half of America’s energy usage is cut by 10% then it would be equivalent to removing 8 million cars off road.

Thus GOOGLE is not only a tool to search for information on web but is also proving to be a tool to search for energy leakages and to initiate energy savings and eco friendly behaviour among its customers.
