NASSCOM EMERGEOUT Startup 5: Manoj Srivatsava, founder, Hanu Software

Manoj Srivastava hails from a small town in Uttar Pradesh and graduated from IIT. He gained experience in the IT industry by working with various tier I organizations. After reaching middle management positions, he decided to do some more meaningful in life and founded the company called Hanu Software in the year 2004. At Hanu, he is responsible for quality of professional services and project deliveries from the offshore development center. He has an excellent combination of people leadership, business leadership, and execution. His formula for success in entrepreneurship is ideas, good people, vision, and execution with ethics. His rightful execution inspires his people to perform their best in challenging assignments without feeling compelled or hushed up.

Leveraging best-in-class people, processes, and technologies, Hanu {} provides high-quality, high-value software development and business process outsourcing services to independent software vendors (ISVs) and enterprises. Hanu is dedicated to developing effective outsourcing partnerships with clients in order to accelerate time to market, reduce operational cost, and empower them to devote more time to their core business. Since its founding, Hanu has built a successful business by focusing on a simple yet compelling mission: supporting our clients' success. This is achieved through careful, strategic investments in technology, process, and—most significantly—people.

Manoj’s heart is in the right place and his endeavors are motivated by a larger purpose of service to the nation. He shares his thoughts on entrepreneurship with NASSCOM EMERGEOUT startup initiative.

1.        Why did you take up entrepreneurship journey?

Manoj: (a) To add more value to me, society, and our nation.

(b) To prove a point to me and to others that in e-economy, it just needs an idea and entrepreneurship to build something significant than capital.

(c) To participate in the IT growth story of India.

(d) To do something new in life.

2.        What keeps you going (how and where do you find your motivation levels)?

Manoj: (a) Only by doing something good for a larger set of people, you will do good for yourself.

(b) To create something lasting.

(c) Keep solving the problems that keep emerge as challenges.

(d) Keep doing it as we are not even close to our startup vision.

3.        What is your advice to wannabe entrepreneurs in India?

Manoj: (a) Entrepreneurship is the future and capable of providing solutions to India's many problems. So go ahead and do something good and lasting for the nation.

(b) Enjoy the challenges that come along with it.

(c) Take calculated risks and have fun.

4.        What success means to you and your organization?

Manoj: (a) Not yet clear what it is as far as I am concerned. For now truthfully, it means having a good amount of cash in bank and see our organization join the $20 million league in the near term. In longer term, it means having created a $1 billion enterprise, if God is with us.

5.        What are your learnings from the failures?

Manoj: (a) Keep trying.

(b) Failures are part of game and the only source of learning.

(c) I feel sometimes that I should have taken more risks.

Speaking straight out of the heart, Manoj spells his success mantras, which are investments in people, doing something good to society and nation, and also enjoying challenges.
