YS spoke to Olivier and Alban from Socialter who are traveling around the world talking to social entrepreneurs about social media
1) Tell us about yourself
I am Alban. Currently in a gap year before finishing my studies of philosophy and management. I am the writer, the geek and the polyglot of the gang.
I am Olivier. I've just finished my studies in Political Sciences and Finance, that's why I'm involved in this crazy project. I'm the official movie director of Socialter.
I am Mae Scott, I am a 10cm-high frog, and I travel with Alban and Olivier, as Socialter's mascot.
2) Tell us more about socialter
Socialter is an organization we created together. It's aim is to spread the good ideas using social media. As we travel, we spot interesting social entrepreneurs and then we write about them on our blog, make video about them, and spread their word and their good ideas through facebook and twitter. We also offer to advise them on the use of social media.
3) The idea behind Socialter and its objectives
We believe that social media, even if they are often used in a silly way, are a very powerful tool that allows us to connect and communicate. Actually, we connected with Vallabh, from Yourstory, through a common friend that we both met on twitter!
Our aim is to put this powerful tool in the hand of those who have good ideas such as social entrepreneurs. As we travel, we assess their needs and we are planning to create an online platform with tools and kits for social entrepreneurs (connect with us if you want to participate!).
4) Why social entrepreneurs?
Olivier is a big fan of microfinance and social innovation, Alban is a wannabe entrepreneur, and we both want to see the world change, that's why we chose to focus on social entrepreneurship.
5) Tell us about your experience so far and about your travel
So far we travelled in Latin America, France and India. We are always greeted well and found amazing social entrepreneurs. In India, we meet a lot of very friendly people who helped us to find our way in this "incredible" country! There are a lot of social entrepreneurs here and many of them don't need our help, they are very skilled at communicating with new technologies.
6) Schedule in India and future plans
We are heading to From 21 to 25 in Madurai (21 to 25th of April), Puducherry (25 to 28th), Auroville (until the 5th of may), then we'll be off for three weeks (to Vietnam and Nepal :) and back the 28 of may, in Chennai, and then Hyderabad, Kolkata, Delhi...
Our route is planified but we are always ready to deviate if we hear about some amazing social entrepreneur :) so follow us on facebook and twitter and contact us at email@example.com.
