Techfest, IIT Bombay Presents VERIZON- See beyond Horizon

Techfest is an organization managed by the students of IIT Bombay, working on a non-profit basis that conducts the annual Science and Technology Festival of IIT Bombay. Techfest has taken several initiatives for addressing social and environmental causes. Techfest, today, reaches out to over 70,000 students from more than 2,100 colleges in India. Techfest has been utilizing its wide reach all over India to promote some positive changes in society and to stress upon the masses the benefits of a sustainable way of living.
Techfest has earned the tag of Asia's biggest Science and Technology Festival.

Based on this thought of Mahatma Gandhi, we envision a future where everyone in the society takes initiatives and participates in the development of the society as a whole. We want to involve youths, as taking initiatives at young stage will make it more likely that they lead their community to progress and create a positive environment around them. The initiative taken by us is a unique and innovative effort to bridge the youth’s ideas into a combined effort for the sustainable progress of our nation.
Basic outline of the program:
We will call for nominations by questionnaire categorizing broad themes of Education, urban waste management and other theme that you want to address. Shortlisting of some candidates will be done on the basis of these forms. Shortlisted candidates will be giving interviews. After this further selected candidates will be provided a mentor.
Mentors will help candidates through the process of designing and launching their idea, providing guidance, how-to’s, and a process for designing and pitching a venture idea. They will provide him information in what is going on in his respective field, or he will get to attend the meetings. He will also get to know how to run a NGO. This procedure will start from 10th September till the culmination of Techfest i.e. 7th January 2011.
During the Culmination of Techfest 2011 i.e. 7th to 9th January candidates will present their ideas in front of some organizations for co-operation. If organizations found there ideas strong enough to be implemented at some scale they can help candidates through funding, guidance, tools and support. Also we will be publicizing these candidates so as to make them role model for change among youths
It will certainly make a very good impact on youths and make them think of what they can do to help society and thus ultimately to nation. We will need your precious help to make it reach new heights and even more impactful. We are looking for support in questionnaire grading, taking Telephonic interviews. We are also looking for people who can mentor our candidates. Mentoring is one of the most important part of our programme.
