SAMSUNG India and Indian Olympic Association felicitate the Medal Winners of the 2010 Youth Olympic Games held at Singapore

Digital technology leader, Samsung India Electronics Pvt. Ltd. and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) today felicitated the Indian medal winners at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games held at Singapore between August 14th to 26th, 2010. The young Indian team has returned with a kitty of 6 Silver medals and 9 Bronze medals. Samsung, the worldwide partner for the Youth Olympic Games is also the ‘Official Partner‘ of the Indian Contingent and has been a longtime supporter of the Olympic movement. This year, it is also the Official Sponsor of the Indian team to the Guangzhou Asian Games.

 

Mr J S Shin, President & CEO, Samsung South West Asia felicitated the winners by awarding Rs 2 lacs to the Silver medal winners and Rs 1 lac to the Bronze medal winners as a recognition of their achievements. Speaking on the occasion, Mr J S Shin stated, “At Samsung, we stay strongly committed to the Olympic movement and our association with the Indian Olympic Association for the Guangzhou Asian Games later this Year and the just concluded Youth Olympic Games are examples of the same. We believe in nurturing young talent and that is the reason we came forward to support this young team. We are delighted with their performance at the First ever Youth Olympic Games.”

Mr. Suresh Kalmadi, President of the Indian Olympic Association appreciated the Indian team’s performance at the 2010 Youth Olympics even as he lauded SAMSUNG’s continued and consistent support for the Olympic movement in India. “SAMSUNG has always been at the forefront in terms of strengthening the Olympic movement in India and we truly appreciate its commitment to Indian sports and encouragement to sporting talent in the country.”

Samsung India’s association with the Indian Olympic Association commenced with the 1998 Bangkok Asian Games and ever since the Company has supported the Indian Contingent to the Y2000 Sydney Olympics, Y2002 Busan Asian Games, the Y2004 Athens Olympics, 2008 Beijing Olympics, the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games and now the 2010 Youth Olympic Games at Singapore. The individual Gold medal winner at the Beijing Olympics, Abhinav Bindra was a ‘Samsung Olympic Ratna’ and the Company is again providing Scholarship support to 10 Indian ‘Sports Ratnas’ as they prepare for the Asian Games 2010.
