Shradha Sharma, YourStory, wins journalist of the year award at Villgro Unconvention

We are delighted to announce that Shradha Sharma, founder, YourStory, has been awarded Journalist of the Year at Villgro Unconvention 2010. Mr. H.K. Mittal, Head, NSTEDB, gave away the award to Shradha.In her acceptance speech, Shradha explained how she wanted to contribute to entrepreneurial ecosystem by highlighting stories of entrepreneurs and startups per se and not just successful entrepreneurs. YourStory was germinated out of a thought just one night. She also thanked Villgro for recognizing the work of an online medium when journalism is generally considered to be print or television. She also narrated her initial struggles to gain acceptance and how she was discourteously turned away. “It was difficult to be fighting alone,” she said.

Explaining how only print and television reached only a few successful entrepreneurs and left many more wanting a voice in the lurch, Shradha said that YourStory was founded with a simple idea to give voice to entrepreneurs and startups.

“If you ask me, humbly I need it, but I also deserve it,” said Shradha who felt the award came after two years of hard work. YourStory has carried vibrant stories of social entrepreneurs and recently put together an event Sociopreneurship India 2010 to celebrate social entrepreneurship. In the final remark, she said: “Villgro is doing remarkable work and getting the award inspires us to carry more stories.”
