United Nations Online Dispute Resolution Working Group to hold first meeting in India
eBay India, India’s leading eCommerce marketplace, and PayPal in association with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) announced the Tenth Annual Online Dispute Resolution Conference, ODR 2011. The ODR 2011 conference is being held in India for the first time at the Trident, Chennai from February 7 to 9, 2011. The conference is supported by Internet & Mobile Association of India (IAMAI).
ODR 2011 is held under the aegis of the United Nations Online Dispute Resolution Working Group and brings together experts in law, technology and conflict resolution from around the world. Technology is changing our world – and at the same time generating new kinds of conflict especially across geographies and time zones. Fortunately technology can resolve conflict as well. The agenda of ODR 2011 includes the sharing of best practices, research, and discussions on how these changes might affect private companies, judicial systems, and global access to justice.
The field of ODR is undergoing rapid expansion. The United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) is looking to ODR for consumer protection, ODR systems are being built to handle IP and privacy disputes, and courts around the world are looking to ODR to help with their backlogs. ODR is poised to handle millions of more cases than it currently manages.
Consumer-focused companies both offline and on the Internet will find this conference valuable as consumers increasingly spend a lot of time online. Log onto www.odr2011.org to register for the conference. There are no fees for registration.
