Multiply started in early 2004 as a place to share photos, videos and other content with more of the people you care about than was possible on other websites. Because Multiply offered a free, highly-customizable web presence along with unlimited media storage and social networking features, business owners began to see it as an easy, low-cost way to feature their products online and communicate with customers. As more sellers set up their stores here, the shoppers followed. Today, Multiply has evolved into a vibrant Social Shopping destination that connects online merchants with shoppers interested in all kinds of products and services, from clothing and jewelry to electronics and appliances. David Hersh from Multiply answers a few questions about the social shopping platform. How do people use Multiply?
Store owners use Multiply as an easy and free way to open a shop, with unlimited storage for posting photos, videos and blogs about their products. Shops and products are featured in the Multiply Marketplace, a central directory for the shopping community. The site's social media tools allow shops to spread the word through their network of customers and fans, and enable shoppers to learn more about products and share their opinions and experiences with fellow shoppers.
Multiply is based in Boca Raton, FL, USA, with offices in New York City, Manila, Philippines and Jakarta, Indonesia. Multiply attracts entrepreneurs from all over the world who are looking for an easy and low-cost way to start a business, in addition to shoppers looking for a social experience that allows them to communicate with sellers and share opinions and information about products with friends, family and other shoppers. Merchants are primarily concentrated in Southeast Asia, where Multiply has become the second largest social network. The site still gets millions of additional users in the US, India, Brazil and elsewhere, where friends and family continue to share their memories, their stories, their reviews, and their shopping recommendations.
Multiply relies on advertising - from our Multiply Promote(TM) self-serve platform for sellers, as well as ad networks and sponsorships - in addition to subscriptions for Premium and Trusted Seller accounts. In the next few months, we'll introduce transaction fees for sellers, as part of an upgraded e-commerce platform including product listings, integrated with a shopping cart and payment processing, designed to make transactions easier for its existing and new shopper-merchant communities.
In late 2010 we opened new offices in our largest current markets: Manila, Philippines and Jakarta, Indonesia. Our plan is to become the dominant Social Shopping destination in Southeast Asia, and after we launch the next upgrades to our e-commerce platform we will look to replicate our Southeast Asian growth in other markets, with India high on that list.
