UserVoice empowers your customers to submit, discuss, and vote on feedback for your product or organization. Uservoice was launched in 2008 and is a San Francisco-based startup. YourStory talks to Daniel Kan from UserVoice to understand more about their product. What was the business idea behind UserVoice?
UserVoice was born out of Richard White's frustration trying to understand his customers. In 2006, while working on Kiko.com, Richard was consumed by collecting customer feedback. He wanted to know what people thought of the product, but it involved hours combing through countless forum threads, blog comments and emails and resulted with little to show for his efforts. It combines crowdsourcing with the traditional suggestion box to get users to vote up the best ideas and produce a product list. Of course the product has evolved its core functionality and is extremely customizable and thus has been adopted as a solution to a lot of problems including Civic Engagement. Our focus is on empowering customers to speak and companies to understand.
How does voting work?
Every end-user and admin that uses your forum is given 10 votes by default (vote limit customization). They can choose to spend anywhere from 1 - 3 votes per idea but can run out of votes. Votes are counted on a per-forum basis, with each user getting 10 votes within that forum. Votes are counted across all categories.
Does it highlight negative feedback as well ? Can it be moderated ?
We focus on positive feedback that can push your company forward, but are open to users leaving things they don't like on our sites. All sites can be moderated by both communities for admin revision, or by the admin himself.
What the features that organizations could use?
While our product is hosted software, we have built in many features which help startups to Fortune 500s. From integrating your feedback platform into your site, to collecting email addresses, all of our features are designed to make life simpler for you as an organization. Some of our most popular features include Domain Aliasing, Single Sign-on, and Custom Design.
What kind of Analytics does UserVoice offer?
At this time we have the following analytics: voter trending, average vote counts, user karma, and email analytics. That said, we are constantly adding new analytics to help organization with reporting. With higher service levels we also allow our API to pull data out. Through our API, you could pull data out to generate your own metrics, or simply send the information to a CRM package.
