Ashoka presents Green Plan-It : A youth focused green unconference

Wednesday July 13, 2011 , 3 min Read

“Ashoka Green Plan-it” is a two day cross-sectorial - youth, academia, businesses and companies - unconference to:

-Engage and mobilize young people to create innovative solutions for environmental challenges

-Enable a youth-driven approach to implement green initiatives within institutions and neighborhoods

The below questions and answers will give you more info on the event:

So, is it a typical conference?

No! Ashoka Green Plan-it will be a participant driven, interactive unconference. While the first day of the event will be spent in listening and questioning the knowledge partners, the second day of the event will be spent in small groups where the participants will work exclusively with the knowledge partners to create their own environmental “plan” around the areas of water, waste, composting, energy, greening, bio-diversity, etc.

Who will be conducting the sessions and the event?

Ashoka in association with Center for Environmental Research and Education (CERE), is collaborating with 7 other knowledge partners comprising of Ashoka Fellows and Citizen Sector Organization (CSO) leaders, working on different areas of greening and sustainability (Waste, Water, Energy Solutions, Greening and Bio-Diversity, Communities, etc.), to share different aspects of their work with the participants. The speakers for Ashoka Green Plan-it are:

•Rashneh Pardiwala & Kitayun Rustam – Founders, CERE

•Poonam Bir Kasturi – Founder, Daily Dump

•Ayyappa Masagi (aka Water Gandhi) – Founder, Water Literacy Foundation

•Wilma Rodrigues – Founder, Saahas

•Nikhil Nair & Team – Members, SELCO

•Hita Unnikrishnan – Member, ATREE

•Anselm Rosario - Founder, Waste Wise Trust

•Kuldeep Dantewadia – Founder, Reap Benefit

But why should I attend this unconference?

If you have ever had a green spot, have created environment clubs in your school/college/university, have been environmentally conscious, or even if you switch off the lights after you leave a room, then this unconference is for you! It is a chance to work with leading social entrepreneurs and young individuals working in the field, and taking your work and ideas to the next stage.

What are the likely outcomes of this unconference?

The likely outcomes will be young people and decision makers from all sectors going back to their organizations equipped with the motivation, skills, and knowledge to create and implement environmental strategies, benefiting the organizations with ideas that help them operate ‘greenly’ and foster a culture of innovation, empathy, leadership, and teamwork. This will not only create a movement of young people working across sectors changing systems and implementing solutions, but in the long run, it will also benefit the organizations involved with the numerous paybacks of going green.

Dates: 23rd & 24th July

Venue: SAP Labs India, 138, EPIP Zone, Whitefield, Bangalore 560 066
