We at YourStory recently caught up with entrepreneur Rahul Sethi to know more about the business idea behind his venture, BusinessIntelligenze. BusinessIntelligenze is a startup that aspires to be a pure-play SaaS provider of business intelligence and analytics to companies that outsource their non-core processes to low-cost countries such as India, Philippines and Americas with the complete solution set for their business needs. In this chat with YourStory, Rahul speaks about their differentiators, their partnership with Microsoft and the road ahead for BusinessIntelligenze. If someone asked you to tell them about BusinessIntelligenze in about three sentences, what would you say?

Using BusinessIntelligenze, complex business reporting issues are taken care off within weeks and not months. It does the arduous tasks of analyzing and representing data so that managers can focus on using that information to manage operations, identify improvement projects and never worry about the collaborative reporting environment. BusinessIntelligenze works with a variety of businesses like BPOs, KPOs, LPOs, etc. including marketing research companies.

How is BusinessIntelligenze different from other analytics firms?

Rahul-Sethi

We can supply significant business value to our clients by deploying BI in BPOs. Our goal is to provide analytics power to the hands of both the vendor (BPO providers) and customer (outsourcer) with the entire thing being available as a service. In long run, we will be working with outsourcers globally to provide them with a tool that can take care of their outsourcing worries in a very simple manner.

In terms of USP or differentiation, we provide a BPO with dashboards (web/mobile) that account for every single metric which impacts their Bottom line by reducing their estimated report turnaround of 24-48 hrs to virtually on-time. The time spent by MIS team and other managers to create/recreate reports is reduced to 1/10th of the original time taken for this process. This allows managers to focus on areas of improvement and operations requirements. The dashboards can also be accessed by client, thus eliminating time that is spent on e-mails.

Performance management in the BusinessIntelligenze framework creates a highly competitive environment and provides practical talent stack for strategy planning function. It does take care of data integrity (CUIKA) issues in BPO.

Experiencing BI in BPO can eradicate lost service levels and create an opportunity increase of up to 20%, month on month. Perhaps, this growth in achieving service levels gets to the stable point in 6-8 months time, fulfilling expected returns at the rate of investment. This assessment is based on industry knowledge and project experiences.

How did the idea for BusinessIntelligenze about? How much capital was required to implement the idea?

In every CSP that I have been, there are people who spend several days every week or every month cobbling together information from several sources by cutting and pasting parts of reports, spreadsheets and other internal applications.

They do it because reports do not have right information. It’s too hard to make more reports and too expensive to invest in massive business intelligence (BI) systems. To further add to chaos, you have to e-mail those reports to other people in the company who need the same information and to clients then in new formats. They request you to make changes in your reports and it starts over all again.

We have partnered with the world's leading BI providers to deliver next generation business reporting solutions for information workers and enterprises leveraging SaaS models. Our unique solutions bring together the concept of simplicity and sophistication along with power of analytics and reporting solutions that have made us a leader in BPO and KPO Industry. And the capital required to get this started? Rs. 50 lakhs.

Tell us about your background.

I started off with one of India’s largest BPO companies, HCL. I was first member of the COPC Team and I have extensive experience in managing information systems in large CSP setups. In 2005, I ventured out to create a product development outsourcing unit in Noida. The company delivered to 75+ clients with several large to medium-sized projects in the installation management space for AT&T, Digital Security Surveillance for Rotherwood Investment Group and development of several products for South African and African Enterprises, starting from building ground-up spatial-based business intelligence tools to projects from S. African government in last 6 years.

In 2010, I realized the importance of BI in the outsourcing space and started researching it only to end up creating BusinessIntelligenze to focus on pure-play BI for BPO Industry as a whole. I’m a certified MCSD, Six Sigma BlackBelt, certified COPC HPMT and also, one of the youngest ISO Internal Auditors in Delhi. I graduated in Arts from Delhi University.

Is there acceptance for your concept? Can you give us some incidents to illustrate the same?

I’m quoting a letter from the Microsoft Windows Azure team:

We are delighted to confirm that your application, Beeyond is working on Azure. This application is certified on Azure and you are also entitled to use the “Powered by Azure” logo, as per the Microsoft Partner Program. We are delighted to have you on board the Azure applications, and we will be pleased to showcase your application in the new application marketplace being launched at World Partner Conference, in Los Angeles in July.

Where do you see BusinessIntelligenze five years from now? What was the biggest challenge that you faced while developing your solutions?

In the long term, i.e., the next 24-60 months, we’d like to grow to have 80,000 subscribers. Selecting rechnology was the biggest challenge. A partner like Microsoft enabled us to overcome those challenges.

How big is the team behind BusinessIntelligenze? Are you looking at hiring? Let us know about your expansion plans.

We have about 50 people, including permanent and temp hires. And yes, we are looking to hire. With respect to expansion, we’d like to grow in the Philippines and USA market in the next 12-24 months.

We at YourStory wish Rahul and the entire team at BusinessIntelligenze all the very best. To know more, check out http://businessintelligenze.com. Also, do let us know what you think of this story by writing to us at feedback@yourstory.in.
