ChatNotifier: A facebook app from the winner of txtWeb developer challenge
The App Name: ChatNotifier
What does it do?
There's always someone with whom you would like to have a casual chat online. That person may be infrequent on facebook but one fine day you see that person online and are absolutely delighted to write a 'hi'. The “ChatNotifier” just helps you to discover the person by notifying you by SMS when he/she comes online.
How does it work?
Step 1: Select the friends you want notification for.
Step 2: Enter your mobile number and activate it.
Step 3: Select the time-frame you want SMS in and you’re done.
You'll get a SMS when one of the selected friends comes online.
The technology:
Front-end: “jquery” Back-end: “php” & “perl”
How long did it take to develop the app?
It took them around “20 Days & 4 Nights" to develop the app.
How many downloads has the app seen?
App currently has more than 630 installs on facebook.
The developers
Parth and Sujay from Atmiya Institute of Technology and Science, Rajkot Gujarat. Parth looks after the back end while Sujay is the one responsible for the UI.
Previous applications developed:
@www for surfing Web through SMS. It lets you search Web and then surf one of the sites although surfing works best for news sites and blogs. Can be accessed by sending “@www” to 9243342000.
And @smsGPS which finds you places around your current location and this is the one which won Parth the txtWeb developer challenge.
Testimonies for the App:
- A distant cousin of mine is infrequent on facebook so when people ask him when will he come back online he tells them ChatNotify me.
- One of my other friends was leaving for a week-long trip and this was his status update “Won’t be online much during next week but I may just sign in sometimes, follow me on ChatNotifier ”
