Tribesports is a global platform, built for, and powered by active sports enthusiasts. Users can build a complete profile of their sports life, sharing and celebrating their sports activities and achievements with others. Launched in 2011 and run by 3 former executives from mydeco, Tribesports a social network targeted to motivate and help people do more in sporting activities, whether they are slowly training for their first 10k run and enjoy the odd hill walk or game of tennis or are a seasoned decathlete and captain of their local football team. Tribesports is funded by $400k from a group of international angels - and they are currently closing a larger round.
Steve Reid, CEO says on the motivation behind starting such a venture “I have been taking part in marathons and Ironman events for nearly 10 years now, and have played football for as long as I can remember, but there has never been a place where I could share everything about myself as a sports person. In launching Tribesports, we wanted to create a network where people of all standards in sport – from novice to professional – could connect with others globally to share in the passion of sport as well as training logs, tips, questions, tactics, advice and ideas.”
What makes Tribesports different from other sports related sites out there? “Looking for advice to help you as a sportsperson online can be a frustrating experience. Most dedicated sites are limited in their offering with no social focus or user engagement. Tips and advice that may help users to exceed in chosen sports are buried deep within outdated forums and few sites really play to the true passion of sports.” says Steve.Tribesports provides a service for a user to build a complete profile of their sports life, sharing and celebrating their sports activities and achievements with others that share their interests. Users can join Tribes based on their sports interests, location, playing position, ability level and attitude, and can get advice and insights from sports enthusiasts like them.
Tribesports uses an intelligent recommendation engine based on user interactions to provide relevant, useful content that will motivate and inspire users to push themselves in their chosen sports. Leader boards, online kudos and other social gaming mechanics play a key part here, taking the competitive edge of the sportsperson offline and applying it to their social interactions online.

On Tribesports, users can search from more than 1 million products from over 260 retailers, across over 1000 different sports - adding items to their equipment list, or wish-list and they can add reviews, ask questions or request validation on which equipment best suits their needs.
