Careersvalley.com is a highly profitable company expecting a turnover of INR 6 million in the current financial yearThe placement season for graduates does, at more times than one, get a little tricky. Having been through the grind, I can vouch for the fact that these few months can be quite a handful. Besides the possible lack of a vast and easily accessible preparation material, every missed opportunity results in frustration and piling pressure for the students.
A perceived lack of substantial assistance in this field was the motive with which D.K. Balajee and Kamala Kannan, graduates from Anna and SRM University respectively, launched CareersValley.com, a career guidance portal aiming to provide good quality content. “Since our second year of college, we had plans of entrepreneurship somewhere down the line. During our final year we had to prepare for aptitude tests and interviews for job recruitments and other competitive exams. But apart from a couple of websites, most of the others had a lot of non-reviewed and repetitive content,” says Balajee.
After taking off in September 2009, although the first six months were tedious in terms of gaining publicity, their efforts started bearing fruit soon after, with an enormous rise in readership. “Once readership grew monetizing was never a problem. In fact, we are a boot strapped company and in our third year (2011-2012), we made revenue of 3 Million INR. We are proud to say that we are growing profitably and are expected to do a business of more than 6 Million INR for the year 2012 – 2013.” Balajee adds.
On the areas of focus, he says, “Currently, we are focusing only on a limited number of sections primarily for job interviews like aptitude, verbal, logical reasoning, C, OS, JAVA and easier MBA competitive exams (not including CAT).”
Besides the co-founders, the team at CareersValley comprises of Yadavan and Manikandan, who are the technical coordinators. Ambika and Sudha deal with content management, whereas Vinoth and Kasirajan are in charge of Logistics.
Placement Success - Their First Book:
Current located in Madurai, CareersValley released their first self published hard book soon after, titled Placement Success, which turned out to be quite a hit. “We work towards quality of questions and overall career guidance with useful articles. We have sold more than 8700 copies in the last 6 months. We have tied up with India Post and other Reputed Courier Companies to dispatch the books through COD model,” adds Balajee.
An interesting find by them reveals that 60% of their orders turn out to be from remote places that are serviceable only through India Post.
Some of the objectives looked into include providing questions with stepped up difficulty levels and not giving due importance to the quantity of questions. “From inception we are updating just 3 to 5 questions a day but have gathered thousands of regular readers and fans only because of the quality of the questions. We attempt to make the questions interesting by creating stories and avoiding plain old and straight forward numerical questions.”
Looking ahead at the future, Balajee says, “We often get mails requesting study material for several other exams like bank PO and clerical exams. We are planning to diversify to these areas in near future.”
