Directi Launches its First Web Suffix: .pw; Turns Authoritative Registry Operator

Close on the heels of applying for over 30 new generic TLDs, the Directi Group has launched its first web suffix, .pw, a dedicated global namespace for individuals and businesses that are looking to establish a professional presence on the Web. Branded as “The Professional Web”, this makes Directi the first private organization from India to offer a Top level domain (TLD) and accelerates its foray into the registry business.

Directi will offer .pw at an affordable price point and the TLD will be powered by industry stalwarts CentralNic, who operate 27 global domain extensions. Furthermore, Directi will utilize its existing network of registrars and resellers, and is also exploring partnerships beyond its immediate network, to successfully roll out .pw.

Speaking on the development, Bhavin Turakhia, Founder & CEO, Directi, said, “The top generics are running in a depleted state. In over 70% of the cases, consumers are unable to obtain a name of first choice, and must settle for longer, less memorable names. Moreover, each year incumbent gTLDs continue to raise prices. .pw aims to meet the global demand for shorter, first choice names at a reasonable price."

Directi will run .pw exactly like a gTLD, with sunrise, land rush and registration lifecycle policies. The Sunrise period is scheduled to commence on 3rd December and will run for about 68 days, followed by the land rush period that will last a month, starting February 2013. Post the land rush period, the registration in the .pw domain will be opened to the general public on March 25, 2013.
