When three 20-somethings were dreaming an evening of setting up their own company — where they made the rules and where they could take breaks whenever they wanted — Carmocrat took birth. “We were founded on the idea of individualism. Today’s youth is very aware of their identity, of the image they project through their clothes, their accessories, their language, even their Facebook page. Everything is about telling the world who I am as a person,” explains Mohit Verma, MD & CEO, Carmocrat.
Carmocrat is a website that can help you get your favorite footballer or musician or actor’s poster, badge, keychain or sticker delivered to your doorstep. And it’s not just the above three categories that you can choose from, the range of posters offered by Carmocrat includes iconic figures like Gandhi, Dalai Lama or Martin Luther King; classic films like The Good, The Bad & The Ugly, The Godfather; music artists like Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley and Pink Floyd or superheroes – Batman, Superman and Spider-Man among others. But if none of the above excites you, you can simply upload a picture clicked by you on the Carmocrat website and they can deliver a customized poster to you in the size you desire.
Started in August 2012, Carmocrat was founded by Mohit and today has two other core team members who are the feet on the street — Kriti Mahajan and Rohan Jairath. Carmocrat can source any poster that you’d like to put up in your bedroom or hostel room or anywhere and get you a licensed and copyrighted poster at a very competitive price.
According to Rohan, the target audience for Carmocrat is 15-30 year olds — college students, young working professionals or anyone else who wants posters. This space in India is currently unorganized and most posters sold are illegal. However businesses similar to Carmocrat exist in the US and one of the big ones, All Posters, which has since become private, reported $119 million in revenues some years back.
Carmocrat’s posters are prized between Rs 200-Rs 1000 and art posters cost Rs 1200. Art posters are a replica of any artist’s work that you want to adore your walls. To spread the word Carmocrat has appointed representatives in colleges and hostels who can talk about their poster business. These brand ambassadors can also collect orders for posters to be supplied in a particular college/ hostel. Carmocrat will also be exhibiting in Comicon to reach out to the large number of people who attend the event.
Mohit is convinced about the opportunity because there is nobody like Carmocrat in market today. The company has supplied 200 posters to date across 15 towns in India. A lot of demands for the posters are coming from Hyderabad, Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata and Lucknow.
