Event: Base of the pyramid consumers - Getting the right product to the right people
Stoves, water purifiers, off-grid power, nutritious foods – so many innovative products and services are being developed for Base of Pyramid markets. But companies developing these products have to be innovative and creative in the face of several challenges: low purchasing power, traditional consumer preferences and logistical problems, such as inadequate infrastructure that hamper market growth.
So what are companies doing? How are they innovating? This discussion event will bring news and analysis from the ground. Business Innovation Facility and Business Fights Poverty are organizing an event to explore these questions.
The Business Innovation Facility, which supports inclusive businesses in five countries in Africa and Asia, has worked with many companies who are dealing with these issues. Two of the Facility’s Country Managers – Soji Ampala from Nigeria and Nisha Dutt from India – will be in London to present their experiences and offer the insights they have gained form working directly with these companies. Their work, on the ground, has thrown up a number of challenges and a number of highly innovative solutions which will be shared during this session.
- Nisha Dutt, Country Manager, India, Business Innovation Facility and VP, Intellecap Consulting

The session will be chaired by Simon Maxwell, Senior Research Associate, Overseas Development Institute.
