GIZ workshop for Companies on BoP Clean Energy Business Potential
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH along with New Ventures India is offering a practitioners’ workshop for companies which are looking to develop / expand a clean energy business models for low-income or “Base of the Pyramid” (BoP) markets in India.
GIZ is a German federal enterprise which supports the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. The New Ventures program was incubated as a part of the World Resources Institute (WRI), a leading global environmental think tank based in Washington DC – providing business development services to environmentally-focused small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in emerging markets.
GIZ, with the support of MNRE ( Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India) is initiating discussions through these workshops under the IGEN-RE programme. The Renewable Energy Component of the Indo-German Energy Programme (IGEN-RE) is a bilateral technical co-operation measure between the German Fedaral Ministry for Economic Co-operation and Development (BMZ) and MNRE. The IGEN-RE Programme aims to promote energy access through RE technologies.
The workshop is designed for new and established companies starting or expanding business activities into BoP energy markets.
Companies who have existing markets and infrastructure in rural areas and those who have energy products and services as well as companies trying to marry CSR initiatives with business interests are potential targets for these workshops.
- To provide participants with options for designing and improving energy business models that respond to challenges in Indian low-income markets.
- To connect the established companies with suitable social entrepreneurs working with the BoP segment.
- To show potential for a long term association for corporate sector with important stakeholders within the value chain.

- Delhi on 23rd August 2013
