Focus on people doing ground-up solid work: Parag Dhol, MD, Inventus Advisory Services
While selling is in important skill, some people are just sales-ey with little substance, rues Parag Dhol, Managing Director, Inventus Advisory Services (India) P Ltd (www.inventusvc.com). And, that is something he dislikes about some of the media reporting, because what happens is the guy who is thought to be a success comes again and again in some of those stories.
On the other hand, there is redBus, adds Parag. Look at Phanindra Sama, Founder and CEO, redBus; he got the publicity, but he deserves the publicity, reasons Parag. “There are companies like Vizury, which stay below the radar.”
So, it is very important for media to bring out the Vizurys out of their holes and project them, he urges. “That is the huge role that you play. And people like us are time-constrained, and also do not know everything that is happening in a large country. When we read about a Vizury-equivalent in the media, then we think about contacting them. Thus, it helps the entire ecosystem.”
To journalists Parag’s advice, therefore, is not to focus on what has been covered a hundred times, the overhyped entrepreneur, or the overhyped marketplace like ecommerce was two years back. Focus, instead, on people doing ground-up solid work, he says. “And it is very easy to identify an entrepreneur who is honest and is doing something different.”
