Snapdeal launches merchant focused Android app, Seller Zone, aims to reach 1000K sellers by mid 2015


In a bid to ease the process for merchants, eBay-funded Snapdeal has launched Seller Zone App for Android powered mobile phones. The application makes it easier than ever to sell online. By using the app, merchants can check and manage inventory and pricing of their products listed on the platform.

It also lets merchants to monitor their competitor's prices and match them with a single tap.

Currently, Snapdeal gets over 50% of its sales through mobile based transactions. Given the increased mobile penetration and smartphone usage in the country, this latest initiative is in line with the company’s forecast that mobile will drive the next wave of buyers and sellers on its platform.

With over 18 million members, is one of the country’s leading horizontally focused e-commerce destination. At present, the company has over 30,000 merchants which it expects to triple to reach 100,000 sellers within the next 12 months.

Earlier in July this year, the Delhi-based company had launched Smartfeed – a personal shopping guide for its customers. It provides users personalized shopping ideas and a trending list of products which are popular on the platform and relevant for the specific user.

With the increasing pressure to acquire more customers and attain profitability online, marketplaces are introducing new categories and features. Earlier this year, Gurgaon-based ShopClues had launched an express check-out feature and an exclusive program for wholesale merchants.

Over the past one year, mobile has been driving e-commerce in India in a big way. While half of Snapdeal orders come via mobile, Flipkart top brass Sachin Bansal has expressed his company’s intention to become mobile commerce entity in the next two-three years.

By launching Seller Zone App, Snapdeal will undoubtedly generate interest of mobile savvy sellers. Also it will enable merchants to keep track of inventory, sales etc while they are on the go.
