[Photo Sparks] Creativity unleashed – art at the Chitra Santhe 2015 in Bangalore!

In the earlier 35 posts of PhotoSparks, we brought you creative photographs from an art fair, music festival, telecom expo, art museum, mobile showcase, math museum, social hackathon, bookstore, co-working space, sensorium, lantern festival, outdoor ads, startup roadshow, computer museum, startup T-shirts, business cards, art therapy, Diwali rangoli, ecopreneurs, painter-poets, health activists, eNGOs and digital innovators!

In this three-part photo essay series, we showcase the astonishing creativity on display at Bangalore’s annual painting fair, Chitra Santhe. Make YourStory’s PhotoSparks your regular source of photographs that celebrate creativity and innovation!

Every year on a Sunday in January, the two kilometres of footpaths on Kumar Krupa Road in Bangalore are turned into an art gallery. The 12th edition of the Chitra Santhe, organised by the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath on January 4 this year, had paintings on display by 1,200 artists from across India. Murals, sculptures, cartoons, sketches and mixed-media works were also featured. With an estimated 300,000 visitors over the course of the day, the streets and Parishath’s premises were packed with art lovers checking out and buying works from established and budding artists.

With the thousands of works of art on display, even 12 hours did not seem enough to sample the full range of diversity and engage with the artists in conversation! There were also workshops for children and aspiring artists, and even a number of street food vendors to supplement the crowded canteen. Through a mix of collages and close-ups, this photo collection highlights the creative diversity of Indian art, ranging from natural depiction to the abstract, from the erotic to the spiritual.

The visual extravaganza is a treat for art lovers, an eye-opener for the common citizen, and a source of inspiration for entrepreneurs to think out of the box and dream about what is possible. Stay tuned for the second and third installment of this photo series as well!
