Soil-less agriculture to be major technology in agri trade fair

Display of ‘Aeroponics’ soil-less agriculture, will be the major technology to be displayed at the 15th Edition of the four day agricultural trade fair, ‘Agri Intex 2015’ which will begin in Coimbatore from July 17.

With a vision of transform Indian agriculture, the fair will create awareness among farmers about soilless agriculture, considering the shrinkage of farming land across the country, R Shasikumar, Chairman of Agri Intex told reporters in Coimbatore.

This method is performed in controlled environments and set up anywhere without depending on land space and fertility, K Ramasamy, Vice Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, the joint organisers, said.

According to PTI, more than 300 exhibitors will display their products in more than 250 stalls, Shashikumar said, adding over one lakh people, including farmers, students and businessmen are expected to visit the expo.

Special focus would be on solar pumping, micro irrigation, precision farming, farm mechanisation, automation, value addition, agro marketing and animal husbandry, he said.

A conference on July 18, titled ‘Next Generation Indian Agriculture, would see experts in various agriculture fields throw light on various aspects, Shasi Kumar said. The Intex will be inaugurated by state Agriculture minister R Vaithilingam.
