Transgenders in Coimbatore receive houses with solar power
Tamil Nadu Municipal Administration Minister S P Velumani handed over 30 green houses, with solar energy, to transgenders. The houses at a cost of Rs.63 lakh, were located at Panjukattupudur in Karamadai Panchayat in the Coimbatore district, with individual toilets at a cost of Rs.17,000 each.
Handing over the houses, Velumani said there were 332 transgenders in the district and 325 were already issued ration cards, 51 were getting old age pension, while 10 were given Aadhar card, with 128 more in the process.

As promised by AIADMK supremo and chief minister Jayalalithaa, government has already completed three lakh green houses across the state, he said, adding in the last four years 1,297 green houses, at a cost of Rs.2,423 lakh were constructed in the district, including 286 for weavers.
