After offline bookings, Ola now offers flight to Mysuru for Dasara

The taxi aggregator sector in India is growing to the next level, it seems. Ola, which claims to be the market leader, has collaborated with Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation to launch exclusive Tourism flights from Bengaluru to Mysuru till October 6. The initiative ‘Fly to Mysore’ is aimed at the renowned Dusara celebrations in Mysuru.

In an email to users, Ola has said: “To be eligible for winning an opportunity to take the flights, all you need to do is take as many rides as possible with code DASARA…Winners will be selected every day and shall be intimated well in advance."

For the programme, which is available only for Bengaluru residents, Ola is charging Rs 2,000 [plus taxes] per person, together with exclusive offers and discounts from Ola Rentals. Ola’s blog has stated that this ride is provided by KSTDC’s authorized aviation partner Air Vimana, and Ola is a ground transportation partner. Winning customers have to pay by Ola Money. Each winning customer is eligible for two seats. [Winners are decided according to the maximum number of rides in all rides except Ola Share, in sequential order.]

The ride is only one way; passengers need to carry out other arrangements.

Book without internet

Ola has also launched a service which enables booking a cab without internet. The user needs to give his/her location on the app, and an SMS with the location will be sent to the server to locate cabs near him/her. Once the booking is confirmed, the user will receive the driver details by SMS. Starting with four metro cities, Ola plans to roll out the feature in the rest of 102 cities over the next few weeks.

Earlier this year, online travel search engine ixigo had introduced a feature on its app that allows booking the nearest cab available with one tap on the user’s home screen. Delhi-based bike taxi service Baxi also joined its league recently. Jugnoo and AHA taxis have also been reported to be launching the service soon.
