[PhotoSparks] Reflect, remix, refresh: inspiration and change through art at the BACC

PhotoSparks is a weekly feature from YourStory, with photographs that celebrate the spirit of creativity and innovation. In this photo essay, we feature some of the inspiring art work and social activism at the Bangkok Art and Cultural Centre (BACC).

In the earlier 110 posts, we brought you a wide range of creative photographs from an art fair, world music festival, painting fair, telecom expo, art museum, mobile showcase, math museum, social hackathon, bookstore, co-working space, sensorium, international design week, flower show, health activists, eNGOs and digital innovators.

My travels this month brought me to Bangkok for the 13th annual summit on Innovating Radical Competition. In addition to a site visit at the IoT Smart City initiative of the National Innovation Agency, there was a day of highlights at local art galleries, showcasing the works of the Thai creative community.

The beautifully-designed Bangkok Art and Cultural Centre (BACC) features three floors of a spiral gallery, four massive halls, and dozens of small art galleries and studios. In this photo showcase, we feature the paintings by Sompong Tawee, Pratuang Emjaroen and Princess Marsi – as well as recycled and upcycled products that spread awareness about global warming and urban renewal. Other photo exhibits address the refugee crisis in Southeast Asia, and a special feature commemorated the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

As we keep one foot in tradition and the other moves towards an uncertain future, how do we ensure that we keep our focus on sustainability using our best creative abilities?
