SEO 101- how to increase traffic without using keyword stuffing

SEO 101- how to increase traffic without using keyword stuffing

Wednesday January 04, 2017 , 3 min Read

SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is essential in today's digital marketing world. Any website that aspires to do well and garner attention must set aside a sizeable budget for SEO. For the uninitiated, SEO is a process that positions your website above other websites with similar content. It enables your website to be most reachable when a potential consumer is in the buying process and is looking for a site that hosts products/services similar to yours.

A lot of people believe that SEO is all about keyword stuffing. Zero down on the basic keywords that people type on Google when looking for a particular product, service, or content and use those keywords to make the search for your website easier. While using relevant keywords is an important aspect, it is not all there is to SEO. Read on to know more.

Rename Images

Don't we all upload images with their original name i.e. no name? When an image is clicked on a phone or a camera and transferred to the computer, it is saved as IMG_124 or a similar alphanumeric. When you upload the same image on the website without renaming it, it has no identity. Instead of letting it go up as a random number, name it. This way, when the search engine is looking for a dress similar to the one in your picture and you've named it LittleBlackDress.jpg, for instance, it will be found easily.

Find out what your user wants

While adding keywords is great, it doesn't hurt to find out what your user wants. Just for a moment, shift the focus from zeroing down on the list of perfect keywords to obtaining and understanding your target users’ data. It is this group of ideal users that decides which product, service, or content gets maximum attention, and it is your job to procure this information and use it to optimise your search results.

Generate new keywords and topic ideas

While Google keyword planner is great for monthly search information, you need a smarter method of tapping into keywords that are yet unknown. This is where Wikipedia comes in. Head over to Wikipedia and type your keyword. Next, look out for the content box that appears on the right side of the page. It will display closely related searches and topics. You will find similar leads in the sidebars, internal links and the ‘see also’ section. This is a sure-shot way to beat your competitors and come up with original topic ideas.

Make your website mobile-friendly

From school-going children to old people, everyone has a mobile today and they are all accessing internet on the go. A little recognised SEO tool that several companies miss out on is targeting the ever-increasing clan of mobile users. If your website is not mobile-friendly, you're sure to miss out on traffic that are looking to access your website in search of critical information.

SEO can be best described as a massive iceberg, and through this article, we've just touched the tip of it. These points should be enough to help you understand SEO better and to increase traffic to your website. If you can separate yourself from keyword stuffing and pay attention to the finer details, your website will gradually gain traffic like never before.
