PV Sindhu to soon become a Deputy Collector in Andhra PradeshThink Change India
P.V. Sindhu will soon be a Deputy Collector in Andhra Pradesh, as the required amendments were made in the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission Act (APPSC) on Tuesday. The job offer was made a few months ago by both the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments after she became the first woman athlete from India to win a silver medal at the Rio Olympics.
Sindhu had ultimately accepted the offer from the Andhra Pradesh government, according to the Hindustan Times. Her mother, when asked about the offer, had said,
“Sindhu will take a call after she gets the appointment order. After all, it should not affect her game, and she has a long way to go in her career. But she has to settle down one day. We understand it is a very good offer, and since Sindhu is still young, I think it will definitely help her.”
When she won the medal at the Olympics, the AP government had also given her a cash prize of Rs 3 crore and a 1,000-square yard residential plot in Amaravati. According to The Deccan Herald, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, while passing the amendment, said,
“Sindhu has shown extraordinary grit at the Olympics. The state government on its part is trying to honour her in our own way by offering her the post of Deputy Collector. The earlier governments have neglected sports in the state, but we will do our best to retain talent.”
Currently, Sindhu is working as a Deputy Manager in Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL).
