Daughter of famous art connoisseur has a simple Kerala wedding, family donates savings to educate poor kids

Soorya Krishnamoorthy, a famous art connoisseur based out of Kerala, has been in the news for art and culture for several decades now. However, this time, he is being talked about for an entirely different reason. When his daughter Sita recently got married, he decided to do away with the typical extravagant wedding. Skipping the big fat Indian wedding, he kept things simple.

Sita, who trained at the Civil Services Academy, got married to one of her batchmates, Chandan Kumar, who is from Bihar. The two were married in a low-key ceremony held in Thiruvanantapuram, held in the puja room of Soorya's house, the Thaikkad House.

Sita wore a simple red saree, sans the layers of gold typically worn by girls during their wedding in Kerala. She instead wore a plain diamond necklace with a diamond tikka. According to The News Minute, Soorya said,

It was my long-term wish to conduct Sita's wedding in a simple way, without any auditorium, celebrations, or luxury. I was confident when my wife Raji supported me. They will get married in the small prayer room at my house.

Like most fathers, Soorya had also saved money for his daughter's wedding. The money that has been secured over the years will now be donated to the institutions where he studied. The beneficiaries are Model School, Government Arts College, and TKM Engineering College. The money was donated before the wedding, and can be used to sponsor around 20 students for a four-year education.

While talking to The New Indian Express, Soorya said,

It was a decision taken by the entire family. The Rs 15 lakh meant for the marriage will be handed over to the principals of the three institutions. The ornament for the bride will be a single chain to wear the thali. Only payasam and some light refreshments will be provided to the guests.
