The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has started a free trial of Wi-Fi services in 10 AC buses. Ekroop Caur, MD, BMTC, in a report by Bangalore Mirror, said,

The contractor started a trial run on 10 buses and informed us that service would be provided in the remaining 190 AC in a phased manner. We have also floated a tender to provide Wi-Fi services in 500 ordinary buses.

The BMTC has over 600 AC buses that are mostly shuttling in the IT corridors of Whitefield and Electronic City and to the international airport. Owing to the constant traffic chaos, this news comes as a huge relief to the passengers who end up spending long hours on their commute. The report further added that the BMTC official said,

There was a good passenger feedback during the trial run. The passengers could watch movies and see other entertainment programmes. The service will be used by a number of people as it gets extended in another fleet.

Along with this, the BMTC has unveiled plans of introducing a comfortable design with head rest, GPS-enabled tracking through mobile applications, and internet facilities for entertainment and office work. Over 1,600 buses will be added in the future, said the report.
