A professor at IIT-BHU was astonished when Abhay approached him to get his documents attested. After all, while most boys of his age are in Class 10, Abhay is applying for admission to an engineering college.

Hailing from Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh, Abhay might be the youngest person to have cracked the JEE exam. He received an all-India rank 2,467 in the JEE Advanced exam held this year. Born on November 9, 2001, as per his birth certificate, he is only 15 year old right now. An excellent student throughout school, he got himself transferred to higher classes and passed his Class 12 exam quite early.

Abhay belongs to a middle class family and his father works as a pump attendant at Firozabad Nagar Nigam. He studied in a Uttar Pradesh Board school till Class 10 and scored 85 percent in his Class 10 board exam. However, understanding his potential, his parents decided to move him to a school affiliated to CBSE in Class XII.

Abhay wants to study engineering at IIT Roorkie and is, therefore, waiting for the second round of counselling. Keenly interested in robotics, he wants to pursue mechanical engineering. Abhay made up his mind to pursue a career in engineering in Class IX itself. Along with the regular school classes, he took coaching to prepare himself for the entrance exam.

Abhay’s brother Devanshu Agarwal is also studying engineering at a private college and has been a source of guidance to his younger brother. Abhay's achievements have not surprised his family as he has spent most of his time amidst books. For his preparation for the entrance exam, he studied for almost seven to eight hours every day.
