Suryapalli Hussain, the watchman with a BA

Suryapalli Hussain, the watchman with a BA

Wednesday July 26, 2017 , 2 min Read

Suryapalli Hussain's story is all about hope, determination, and humility. Hailing from Kondapuram, a small village in Telangana, Hussain works as a watchman at Hyderabad Chefs. This holder of a BA in History, Economics, and Politics from KRR in Kodad and a Bachelor's in Library Information Science (B.L.Sc) from SV University does all sorts of odd jobs at the restaurant, be it helping patrons park vehicles or running errands for the management.

Hussain never shies away from work despite being burdened with additional duties. In an interview with Get Inspired, Hussain says that whatever he takes up, he does with dedication, because even his smallest actions can positively impact the lives of his three children.

"They all ask me. How does toiling like this day and night as a watchman make you feel? Aren’t you worn out with life? I answer—I am proud of my persistence that I want to keep doing more."

Hussain, who moved to Hyderabad with his family less than a year ago, talks about how he was duped in the hopes of getting a government job.

"Once, I was bribed into paying a large amount that pushed me into debts. To my dismay, I lost both the money and the job. But it never dampened my thirst. I tried again. I looked for a bus conductor’s job, but failed. Alas, I started working as a labourer in the village."

Hussain's children come home every summer and regularly help their parents at work. One of them even works the night shift at Hyderabad Chefs.

To Get Inspired, he adds,

"We send two-thirds of what we earn together to our children, and we manage with the amount that remains. My children always insist that they come here and help us. But I want them to focus on their studies."

Successfully keeping ego and pride at bay, Hussain inspires with his humble nature and hard work.
