Jammikunta, a town in Karimnagar district of Telangana district is now in the headlines for spreading patriotism and harmony in a very efficient manner. The entire village comes to an absolute halt at 7:54 am sharp every single day while the people, as a part of paying respect, sing the national anthem and salute the national flag at 16 different important locations all across the village.

The primary intention behind installing these loudspeakers is to alert the residents of the village to pause their activities and duties for 52 seconds. These include motorists, truck drivers, auto drivers, and school-going children. Campaigns are being launched and several hoardings are set up across the town in order to spread awareness about this initiative that was launched recently on the 71st Independence Day.

The Circle Inspector of Police for Jammikunta, in a chat with India Today said,

"It's sad that much of our younger generation doesn't know the national anthem. In order to propagate the virtues of patriotism and inculcate respect towards the motherland, we took up this initiative and now people irrespective of caste, creed or gender are participating in mass singing of national anthem."

Azeem, a local from Jammikunta town told India Today,

"People are happy with the noble initiative and have no problem sparing two minutes every morning to pay respect to the country. This is going to teach people a lot, particularly the younger generation."

Another local Sravan while speaking with Telangana Today said,

"It’s no big deal for us to spend two minutes to pay respect to the country. I have been able to convince people to stop their vehicles when the anthem is played. Of course, if there is any medical or other emergency people are free to move at that time."
