Success is yours for the taking, just keep the 7-day work week at bay

Tuesday August 22, 2017 , 3 min Read

Throughout our life, we are hammered with this thought that more hours of effort will lead us closer to our aspirations. It starts with your school years, when you are told to study more hours to get better grades. Then once you start working, you are put in the proverbial promotion race, where it is all but expected that you put in long work hours. The general idea is that the more you work, the more successful you're likely to be. However, what if we told you that there is a detour.

Here are five ways entrepreneurs can de-stress to accomplish more.

Disconnect on weekends

If you want your productivity levels to never decline, you need to start treating weekends like weekends. Don't attend to work calls and emails once you leave your office on a Friday evening till you're back in office on a Monday morning. If you can't completely disconnect from work for two whole days, designate an hour or two on both days to attend to work and keep the rest of the day free for your personal pursuits.

Minimize your chores

Weekends are for relaxing and having fun. A successful weekend is one where you are able to completely disconnect from work, be it of any kind. However, if you spend your weekend running errands and chores, your week will begin to feel like a seven-day work week. Therefore, allot a time period for chores so you don't spend your entire weekend attending to them.

Workout

Do you not get time to exercise between Monday to Friday due to various reasons? Make the most of your weekend by going for a run or hitting the gym for at least an hour or two, as it is commonly known that working out reduces stress. Also, exercise is a great way to come up with new ideas. Talk to any successful individual and he will tell you that being outdoors sparks creativity.

Take up a hobby

You might think that staying in your office till 11pm every alternate day will help you be more productive, but you couldn't be more wrong. Instead, pick up a hobby. Enroll for guitar classes, dance lessons or anything else you are passionate about and pursue your hobby once office hours are over. You'll be surprised to find out that following your passion is a great way to escape stress and be more productive.

Spend time with family and friends

Spending quality time with your family and friends is essential to relax and rejuvenate. Weekdays are often so hectic that the entire week flies by before you can have a meaningful conversation with your loved ones. When you devote time on the weekends to the people who matter most, you feel recharged to face yet another week at work.

More than anything, prioritize the tasks on your to-do list and aim to be more productive without burning the midnight oil. Try to devote time to the above mentioned five routines to work less for more success.
