Delhi government to reward people helping road accident victims
Within a month, the Delhi government will launch a scheme providing Rs 2,000 as a reward to those who help road accident victims reach hospitals, Delhi's Health Minister Satyendra Jain said recently.
Addressing the audience at the MeltingPot2020 Innovation Summit 2017 in Hyderabad, he claimed that victims of road accidents in Delhi were taken to hospitals faster than those in New York and that this scheme will further reduce the time.
The Delhi government had unveiled the Good Samaritan policy in January to reward people helping road accident victims with money as well as certificates of appreciation.
In August last year, the Aam Aadmi Party had mooted the proposal after a road accident victim in Subhash Nagar bled to death because no one came forward to help him.
Jain added that the government will also bear the treatment costs of the injured.

The minister said the government had set a target of providing free healthcare to all the citizens. He noted that currently, the government healthcare system caters to only 20 percent of the city's population of two crore. Jain said the government was building new hospitals and expanding the capacity of existing facilities.
Recently, the Kerala government had announced a trauma care policy to provide road accident victims free treatment for the first 48 hours after admission. The announcement came on the heels of the deaths of a few road accident victims who were denied treatment by both government and private hospitals.
