This Ernakulam vegetable vendor saves a portion of his daily stock to donate to the poor
Based out of Ernakulam, Kerala, KY Nazeer is a vegetable vendor who allocates a part of his daily stock to donate to the poor and needy in the locality. Nazeer has been doing this for the last four years through Foundation for Annam Charity Ease (FACE), a charitable organisation that provides free midday meals to thousands of people.
Talking about what compelled him to go ahead with this noble initiative, Nazeer told The Times of India,
"I have come across poor children and adults begging for food in public places. However, I was not in a position to help them at that time since I myself had to often struggle to eke out a living while I was setting up a market in Ernakulam."
In 2014, Nazeer came across several people standing outside FACE's centre in the scorching heat, waiting for food. Moved by the sight, he asked the officials if he could be of help in any way. They responded by saying that, being a vegetable vendor, he could supply them with vegetables. His burning desire to help the needy became a reality when he decided to dedicate a small part of his everyday stock and give it to the needy for free.
Further, he said,
"It was like some force within pulling me towards these people. The long queue of people waiting in the scorching heat literally moved my mind. There was some sort of heaviness in my mind until I agreed to supply vegetables."
TR Devan, President, FACE, told The Times of India,
"We have been providing midday meals to more than 300 people daily for the past five years. Nazeer has supplied around 10 kg of vegetables for free for the past four years."
