Her unconventional career choices have made Richa Chadda one of the few actresses in Bollywood who has struck a fine balance between mainstream and offbeat films. Today, as one of the few successful faces of independent Hindi cinema, she has made her presence felt in the industry with her brilliant performances in Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, Gangs of Wasseypur, Fukrey, Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela, Masaan, and Sarabjit.
Chadda is known for her quality films and for raising awareness for the right causes, but it hasn’t always been roses through her nine-year journey in the industry.
Here are five instances that prove Richa is not one to be put down easily.
Richa has openly talked about her struggle with body shaming and an eating disorder, because of the pressure to look perfect all the time. But she didn’t crumble; instead, she fought against and took control of her body and life.
The actor once said, “I want my work to be as versatile as possible and essay characters starkly different from each other.” In an industry where there is no dearth of talent, Richa has managed to carve a niche and do her own thing.
Richa spoke about how there is no one to guide outsiders and tell them what to do or what not to do. But the actress doesn’t care about the outsider tag anymore. According to her, not being born into the industry, doesn’t mean one will not become successful. If you’re progressive, you eventually get your dues and it should be based on merit.
Nobody faces rejection well, and Chadda has had her own tryst with them. But they never brought her down, because she believes that rejections never impact one in the long run. She’s still here doing movies, isn’t she?
Richa Chadda is known for voicing her opinions fearlessly and raising awareness for many causes like bulimia, human trafficking, vegetarianism, stray animals, the Indian Army, and women’s issues, among others. While not compulsory, she believes that the industry should support as many social causes as they can.
