Xiaomi takes a page out of BookMyShow, launches subscription-based service on WhatsApp

Chinese smartphone company, Xiaomi launched a subscription-based service on WhatsApp called Mi Bunny, where users will be able to receive updates, news about product launches, product deals, and sales reminders. Customers can also reach out to the company's customer support through this interface, the company said on its Mi Forum in India.

Apart from Xiaomi, companies like Netflix, BookMyShow, and MakeMyShow are others that are leveraging the WhatsApp business platform to expand their reach across mobile phone customers.

BookMyShow was one of the first Indian online ticketing companies to participate in the ‘WhatsApp for Business' pilot programme. As part of this test, BookMyShow made WhatsApp a default ticket confirmation channel for all its users.

To interact with Xiaomi Mi Bunny, users need to send "Xiaomi" to +91-7760944500 along with their name and city through WhatsApp. The company will then keep users posted about future Mi events in their city.

The Mi Bunny service is currently being beta tested and is limited to some features. However, Xiaomi has plans to add more functionalities over time.

Earlier this year, Xiaomi partnered with Smartbox, a Delhi-based start-up that provides smart lockers which enable easy last-mile delivery for ecommerce. The latest move will enable Xiaomi to encourage customers making online orders and receive their deliveries through Smartbox delivery terminals that are strategically located at locations such as metro stations, residential complexes, and office areas.
