For avid travellers Shubra Acharya and Amrutha Kashinath, traveling is not just about reaching the destination. Both hop on to their motorcycles, and thoroughly enjoy the journey they embark on to reach the destination.

Shubra and Amrutha were recently registered in the Limca Book of Records for completing the north-south stretch in the least time by women on a motorcycle. Naming their expedition as The Long Highway, they completed the stretch from Kanyakumari to Leh in only 129 hours.

While speaking with The New Indian Express, Amrutha said,

In the beginning we had no plans to complete the expedition within the limited time but later we wanted to challenge ourselves. We never realised that we just took five days.

Both women are avid travellers, and have been to different places across the country over the past seven years. Amrutha and Shubra’s expedition was entirely sponsored, and they even underwent some training to make this happen.

Since they travel on a regular basis, Amrutha and Shubra were well-aware of the challenges they might encounter in their journey, and prepared accordingly. However, their biggest challenge during their expedition getting enough sleep.

Amrutha told India Today,

Travel makes you a lot less judgemental. It frees you of assumptions and breaks a lot of myths. The more you travel, the more do you get to know about the different kinds of people, their food and diverse culture.

Amrutha and Shubra have known each other for the past 12-13 years, and say that having a good equation and understanding between each other helps in these motorcycle expeditions.

While speaking with the Happy Trips, Amrutha said,

We have covered around 2 lakh km around the country. Then we covered Bhutan and Sri Lanka. This year we are going to Mongolia.
