Oatly is a vegan food brand from Sweden that produces alternatives to dairy products from oats.
Basic Information
Oatly was the brainchild of Swedish food scientist Rickard Öste. It was formed in the 1990s using research from Lund University. Oatly has headquarters in Malmö and a production and development center in Landskrona. Oatly has a range of products including: oat milk, ice cream, cold coffee, yoghurt substitutes, cooking cream, spread and custard. The sugar in their oat drinks is produced during the enzymatic production process. They use natural enzymes to break the starches in the oats down into simple sugar like maltose, similar to how the human body uses enzymes to break starches down into sugars during digestion. All Oatly products are 100% vegan and contain no traces of animal products. And everything they do champions plant-based consumption and sustainable production. The brand claims that when it comes to oat farming, their Swedish oat suppliers are fully compliant with the rules for conventional and organic farming.
