Google announced it will begin charging a license fees from smartphone and tablet manufacturers who wish to install Google PlayStore, Google Maps, Gmail and some of the popular Google apps.
The announcement was made in Google blogs.
It is understood that this announcement comes in the wake of the massive US$5billion fine, slapped by the EU on Google in July 2018.
While it's the first time that Google will be charging for this, in hindsight it appears something on these lines was coming when Google CEO Sundar Pichai wrote in his blog that this action was a "troubling signal."
The following infographic captures the highlights.
